There’s no such thing as bad weather in Nursery! Last week’s early flurry of snow brought some great opportunities for us to learn about how to move safely in snowy conditions and have great fun! In the morning class we managed to gather enough snow to build a ‘Snow Kid” compete with conkers for buttons and eyes, sticks for arms, a fake carrot nose and a sun hat! In the afternoon we discovered that if we used the buckets and spades from the sand tray we could make super “Snow Castles”! And of course no snow day is complete without the Nursery staff having to dodge a snow ball or two!
Lots of us were lucky enough to get to see the fireworks at Halloween, they were really exciting. We decided we would try to make some of our own. We talked about how the sky was dark when we were watching the fireworks, we knew that the fireworks had to be really bright so we could see them against the dark sky. We used black paper to be the night sky and fluorescent paint to be our bright fireworks. Working in pairs with our friends we splatted the paint across our black page, it was really messy. Next we worked together to roll marbles up, down and across our pages to make our fireworks explode across the sky ! 🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆🎆
We had lots of fun coming up to Halloween in Nursery with our friends. We enjoyed dressing up and using our imaginations to create stories with our friends, we developed our hand eye co-ordination and fine motor skills hammering golf tees into pumpkins. We scooped out the pumpkins and created witches brew and pumpkin soup. Our play dough was scented with pumpkin spice which smelled delicious, we even had a visit from a witch’s frog! On the last day before our holidays we came to Nursery in our own costumes and had a Halloween party!
The children in both classes have had a very busy first half term settling in to Nursery; we have been making new friends, learning new routines, enjoying new experiences and exploring and experimenting with new materials. We have loved listening to stories and songs about Autumn and playing with the Autumn treasures that we all brought in from home, especially the conkers and pine cones.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
