Our Vision & Values

Vision and Values

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, well behaved, happy children and model citizens.

  • We provide a positive, purposeful, child-centred climate in our Primary School & Nursery Unit, characterised by mutual respect, trust and confidence.
  • Our aims are reflective of our Catholic ethos and rich curricular provision.
  • We provide an appropriate range of formal, non-formal and extra-curricular activities to enrich the curricular and pastoral needs of pupils.  We participate in the DENI 'Extended Schools' funded programme, as well as providing a wide range of extra curricular school supported activities.
  • We are committed to providing an education which enables every child to be proud of their learning, achievement and attainments.
  • We pride ourselves in having a community where everyone is valued and respected.
  • Our staff strive to improve the learning process by providing a rich and stimulating learning environment in all year groups.
  • Children, parents, staff and governors are linked together to secure continuous improvement in teaching and learning, the facilities at our disposal and the environment of the school.
  • We have a primary responsibility and strong commitment to the care, welfare and safety of each child.
  • Financial and other resources are managed effectively to support the needs of all pupils.
  • Healthy living is built into the school’s culture and we are recipients of the 'Eco Green Flag' Award.
  • Through our strong community ethos, St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s has been, and will continue to be, a source of pride for the school and wider community.
  • We are an inclusive school reflected in the many awards presented by recognised agencies including UNICEF 'Rights Respecting Schools' Award, 'Inclusion Quality Mark', 'International Schools' Award'

Opening of our New School Building 2010

Our 'new' school building.

Our school was established in 1991 as the result of the amalgamation of St Brigid's Girls' Primary School and St Patrick's Boys' Primary School.  Our new school building was opened durning the school year 2010/11 following the demolition of the 2 existing split-sites on Moyle Road.

This new fully furnished school has been built to meet the needs of 21st century education, with  ICT hardware and supporting software upgraded in 2014.

As Ballycastle is a seaside town the school was designed upon a nautical theme with windows resembling portholes, wall clading representing the sails of yachts, 6 roof sunlights in the shape of ship funnels and some classroom windows in the unique shape of the bows of boats.

The school also has extensive grounds with a full size playing field, playgrounds for different age groups, outdoor environmental areas particularly our bespoke garden area, large play equipment, carparking and school bus stops directly outside the school gate.

The design inside the school and Nursery Unit includes 4 distinct teaching areas, Nursery Unit (Pre-school), Foundation (P1 & P2), Key Stage 1 (P3 & P4) and Key Stage 2 (P5, P6 & P7).  All of these areas have Special Educational Needs small group rooms and access to the school and classrooms meets the 'Special Educational Needs Disability Order' requirements.

Bright and airy classrooms are fully furnished with inter-active white boards in every room, computers, storage areas, resource areas where children can work individually or in groups. All furniture is 'age' appropriate and has been chosen to accomodate to-day's education classroom organisation, learning & teaching methods.  Every classroom has its own cloakroom and toilet area, with a number accomodating 'disabled' furniture fittings and access.

The school also has a number of support areas including a large library room, assembly/P.Ed hall, kitchen and canteen, office blocks and outdoor 'soft' play areas.

The nursery unit is designed to meet the needs of the pre-school curriculum with an outside 'soft play area' as well as an 'open planned' classroom, nursery toilets, quiet room, parent/staff room, kitchen and access to many of the primary school's facilities.

St Patrick's & St Brigid's Primary School & Nursery Unit is a very welcoming, child friendly environment with carefully designed features to encourage and support children's learning and education al all levels, for years to come!
