We were so lucky to get a beautiful sunny day for lovely picnic and lots of games. We brought in our favourite teddy/toys and a blanket.
THANK YOU MR KINNEY FOR OUR HOLY COMMUNION TREAT.
WE HAD A GREAT SPORTS DAY
FRIDAY 19TH MARCH 2021 BANANA GROUP Your last day working online. Thank you for completing all the tasks, and I can't wait until I see you on Monday. Please bring in your last pack. I will correct this week's work and we can do week 10 and Easter work over the next 8 school days.
Watch the videos and learn what happened, before placing 5 words into the crossword.
The apostles/disciples you will be focussing on are JUDAS and PETER. (Remember the Apostle Song which named all the apostles)
Even though Peter and Judas loved Jesus, they were afraid and said they didn't know him. They didn't want these men to harm them, just because they were friends of Jesus.
NUMERACY
Today I would like you to do the sheet on the 2 times tables (REVISION)
Then I want you to do The Graph entitled FAVOURITE COLOUR BAR GRAPH AND TALLYING

Red equals a tally of 5 plus 3. This will be four strokes and a diagonal line through the strokes (SEE CHAFFINCH in Tuesday's lesson if you have forgotten) and three strokes.
When all the tally work has been done, make the bar graph for Yellow, Blue and Green. You will probably need a ruler.
Then answer the questions on the next page.

As we have just over two week left of online learning before Easter Sunday, I would like you to learn a little about this period. Please watch the video(s) I have posted called PALM SUNDAY. (This is the Sunday before Easter Sunday) The story will give you an idea, how, some people treated Jesus well, and some treated him very badly, because they were jealous of all the miracles he was performing.
From the video you can see a person making a PALM / drawing around 2 hands. Could you do this by using 2 pages in your exercise book. Colour them green and write a very short prayer/message inside, to Jesus. You might find a small stick somewhere, to stick to your palm, and then you can wave it.

This morning boys and girls we are going to look atSYMMETRYagain. When we were in school, you did some work on symmetry similar to this sheet. There are 3 short videos in POSTS for you to watch first. These videos will jog your memory. If you have a small hand mirror it will make your work much easier. Just place the edge of the mirror on the shape (numbers 1 and 2) to see where the line of symmetry is.IT HAS TO BE THE SAME ON BOTH SIDES. Number 3 -----use the mirror to help you draw the other side of the shape. Read Grammar page 18. Read it very carefully with an adult. Hopefully you understand it. It's about how our language changes depending on whether we are writing about what happened in the past, present or the future.
Look at the second sheet and see if you can write about yesterday and tomorrow. I COOKED YESTERDAY I WILL COOK TOMORROW
COMMAS
This piece of grammar work can be difficult to understand. I have found two videos on commas to help you . If you still don't understand, try and find a different video. Then look at the sheetCOMMAS. Try your best to put the commas were you now think they should go. You will be doing more work on commas this year and for many years to come.
As you have been learning, there was FOOD RATIONING during WW2. (You just couldn't buy whatever you wanted)The reason being, with a lot of people fighting and working for the war effort, there were fewer people to make and distribute the food. Less food in the shops meant that you got the amount of food according to the size of your family. You got a ration book with coupons and used these as you bought your groceries. SEE VIDEO.You were encouraged to grow your own vegetables as you saw from the poster you had for Monday's lesson.
Parents had to cook and bake with a limited amount of ingredients, but could still produce lovely food as you can see from your second video showing children today tasting food from WW2.
All I want you to do today is, to watch the two videos carefully and jot down ONE new thing you have learnt about the war.

A couple of weeks ago you were measuring liquids in LITRES and MILLILITRES.
Yesterday you were measuring solids in KILOGRAMS and GRAMS.
So now you have some understanding of these three measurements.
Look at your sheet----- match the right measurement to the right picture.

TODAY EVERYONE, WE ARE JUST FOCUSSING ON THE KILOGRAM. LIFT SOMETHING IN THE HOUSE THAT IS A KILOGRAM WEIGHT AND PLACE IT IN ONE HAND. THEN ONE BY ONE LIFT OTHER OBJECTS IN YOUR OTHER HAND AND SEE IF YOUR NEW OBJECT IS LIGHTER THAN, HEAVIER THAN OR ABOUT THE SAME AS A KILOGRAM.
THEN COMPLETE THE TOP TABLE ON YOUR SHEET.
TO FIND THE ACTUAL MEASURE YOU WILL NEED SCALES. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY LEAVE THE THIRD COLUMN OUT.
FOR THE SECOND PART OF THE SHEET, ESTIMATE/GUESS AGAIN. (DON'T CHEAT BY LOOKING FOR THE WEIGHT FIRST) YOU DON'T HAVE TO STICK TO THESE OBJECTS YOU JUST USE WHAT YOU HAVE IN THE CUPBOARD.
BBC BITESIZE 9.00AM
Watch this programme when it suit you through the day. It's on live at 9 am but it can be watched anytime as its always on iplayer.
Metaphors and similes sound very difficult but when you watch this programme you will realise you say metaphors and similes very often during your week. Would you choose one and write it into your exercise book. There is a little work on adjectives and nouns too in this programme which you are already very familiar with.
I hope you like the story about school dinners and the facts about A Farm.
You have a WW2 poster. Posters during the war were a very powerful means of getting a message across.
CAN YOU WORK OUT WITH THE HELP OF YOUR FAMILY WHAT THE MESSAGE MIGHT BE?
1. Look at the picture carefully.
2. Discuss with your family what it is about.
3. What vegetables can you see clearly in the basket?
4. Google to find out what vegetables were grown during WW2 and see if they are in the basket.
5. Write the names of the vegetables around the basket.
6. Colour the poster.
YOUDON'THAVE TO DO THE QUESTIONS ON THE SECOND PART OF THIS SHEET.
NUMERACY
Primary four,IFwe were in school, I would have given you grams and kilogram weights to experiment with for today's lesson. However, you are at home and circumstances are different. You can only do your best with the resources you have at home.
A couple of weeks ago you were measuring liquids and you learnt how to measure liquids in litres and millilitres.
Solids, ( the opposite of liquids) which are firm and stable in shape are measured in grams and kilograms. Most of you wouldn't have these at home, some of you might have weighing scales like the teacher in the video.WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE DOING THE SHEET.I am going to assume you have nothing at home. SO, could you look in the kitchen cupboard to find at least 10 things your family would have bought at the shops. Look for the weight of each on the pack somewhere.
Your first sheet suggests a number of items to use BUT if you don't have these, then substitute them (the drawings) for what you have.
In doing this exercise you are going to get a feeling of how heavy or light certain groceries are.
Record the weight in the box beside the picture.
A BAG OF SUGAR, OR BIG BAG OF PASTA IS 1KG. So you will see what is heavier and lighter than that.
IT'S GOING TO BE DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO ESTIMATE AS IT SAYS AT THE BOTTOM, UNLESS YOU HAVE GOT A FEEL OF WHAT DIFFERENT GRAMS AND KILOGRAMS WEIGH, AND YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME GUESSING WITH YOUR FAMILY.
Have fun and make this piece of work suit you and your kitchen groceries.
IF YOU DO HAVE WEIGHING SCALES ENJOY MEASURING WITH THESE.
I do know that some of you have been baking, so you have already completed a lesson in weighing.
Finally, you have one MYMATHS task to complete. This can be done anytime this week.
READING
WEEK 8 Hopefully you have read your first book in Pack 4. Start reading your second book today--- One chapter, or if your book doesn't have chapters read 8 pages each day. Hello everyone I hope you had a lovely week off and did something different. I painted our hall wall a lighter colour and I'm so pleased that it is done. Thank you for filling in your evaluation forms for week 5's work. If you have not sent them to me you can do that anytime this week. I have sent you another form to be filled in this week. I posted it to TEAM P4CB as an assignment.
I have marked all the work you returned to me and I am very pleased with it.
When I was marking your work I realised that quite a number of you completed lots from your Comprehension Book A. It was very good of you to do extra work. This means that I will NOT be assigning anyone work from this booklet BUT I would be happy if you completed some of the pieces in it, if you had any spare time. You can return this to me after Easter when we are all back at school.
AIR RAID SHELTERS It has been a custom in Primary 4 for many years to do quite a big project on WW2. Children in the past would have made a small model of an air raid shelter. This is a very different year and you have lots already to do so you might not have time to complete this task. You might decide that you would like to make something else to do with the WAR or make up a small scrapbook of things you have found out. You could draw or print pictures. You might like to make a fighter plane instead or a gas mask. You might be happier making a basket of rationed food out of paper or anything you like.
DON'T PANIC OR WORRY ABOUT IT. IF YOU HAVE TIME TO DO SOMETHING THAT'S GREAT, IF NOT IT'S OK.
If you are making something or providing any extra project work you can bring it into school after the Easter Break. Thank You.
A very good morning to you all. It's been great chatting to your parents and finding out how hard you have been working. Keep up this good work and I love seeing and hearing about everything you are doing. Some of you have to write a story today. Maybe when you have finished you could read this aloud to your family as it is WORLD READ ALOUD DAY. Or read a page of your reading book aloud.
Have a good day and work hard. Start today's lessons by playing The Song To Brigid or our class favourite WW2 song. (Both links above) This will make you feel upbeat and ready for your work.
Everyone continue to read for about 10 to 15 minutes each day.

Good morning everyone. I hope you liked the song about St. Brigid. Today is another special day in the Christian Calendar CANDLEMAS DAY. Maybe you remember me chatting about the Mysteries of the Rosary. You brought in your beads and we would say a decade every day. The fourth Joyful Mystery is called The Presentation. This is when the baby Jesus was presented to the elders of the church called Anna and Simeon. This is called the period of Candlemas.
So today you could start the day with two prayers from The Rosary. The Hail Mary and The Our Father.
Thank you for yesterday's work and for keeping me right about the videos that didn't show up. It has been great chatting to your Mums and Dads and I will do more calls tomorrow. Follow today's tasks in your groups as usual.
Well boys and girls you have come to the end of January and have completed almost four weeks of online learning. Very well done to you all. Today I have given you a small amount of literacy and numeracy as you deserve a wee break. You can listen to the story about Saint Brigid and do any art work you wish about this story. Or you can make St Brigid's crosses from straws or rushes if an adult has the time to help you. Have another great weekend although I don't think you will be building snowmen, (cry) like last weekend. Instead of a prayer this morning I am going to ask you to click on the link below and sing along to the war song that a few of you found during the week. It is our most popular song chosen by you.

Catholic Schools Week--Communities of Resilience----God is always with us, especially during lockdown.
Good morning Primary 4! Thank you for yesterday's work. I hope you got a chance to see the story of the Prodigal Son. Today I am going to place a link in this TEAM to a story about Moses. Moses lived in a time before Jesus was born. You would find this story in The Old Testament. The Bible ( a book with lots of stories about Jesus and God) is divided into two main parts, The Old and The New Testament. The story of Jairus' Daughter can be found in The New Testament. The story you are going to watch today is how Moses helped free slaves (people who were treated badly) out of Egypt. God was always with them like God is always with us through this virus.
Continue to send me a thumbs up when you sign on to TEAMS in the morning.
Hopefully you all saw the notice about keeping a few sheets in your house from your pack before returning it to school on Friday. (notice to be found in a new channel in your Fruit Teams) Don't forget your reading books too even if you haven't finished reading them.
Return your jotter if you have work in it and I will give you a new one for your next pack.

I will place a link in this general TEAM for you to watch another story from the bible called THE PRODIGAL SON. Every story has a wee message. Let me know what you think the message is in this story or what is the point of the story. Does it relate to our family life?

1942 AMERICAN SOLDIERS ARRIVE IN N.IRELAND
Good morning everyone! A special mention to Corin who celebrated his 8th birthday yesterday. When we all return to school we can sing Happy Birthday to him and Conall. (Maybe in Dutch if we still remember)
As you can read above today is a day which will be remembered by many Irish people, It is the day American soldiers arrived here during WW2. Some actually stayed on after the war as they married Irish girls and made a home here. They were different and exciting. They had chewing gum which children liked and most never had. It was a treat when there was so much poverty and all foods were rationed. You will learn more about this as we continue our topic. My father-in - law Vincent was a mechanic, and he worked for the soldiers fixing their trucks.
Thank You for letting me know you were on TEAMS yesterday.
Let us start the day with a prayer. We will pray for special people who were in our lives and now they have died.
You can say any of the prayers we have been saying each day online.
